There were no upcoming lampwork classes available in Victoria, BC when I wanted to learn. So I bought a hothead torch, some rods of glass, and set up on a folding table in my backyard. My first beads were fantabulously wonky and had plenty of character. Because a hothead torch runs straight off a camp-stove sized propane bottle, the flame it produces can be starved for Oxygen. Thus, some of the colors looked dirty. Of course, I didn’t know the cause of the ‘dirty’ glass yet…
